STORMS SEND DOGS SEASON DOWN THE DRAIN
The St.Bernards OCCC 2009/10 season over after the freak storms that hit Melbourne over the weekend. With none of the 3 teams who made the finals finishing in the top 2 a win was the only way to advance to the grand final. The 2nd XI were able to face 21 overs on Saturday crumbling to 6/35 before rain stopped play. A total of 7 overs were bowled on day 1 in the thirds as Hoppers managed 0/21 off 7 overs, While the 4th XI bowled 20 overs at Greenvale before the biggest storm to ever hit St.Bernards stopped play for the rest of the weekend. The thrid XI were the only side able to get play underway on day 2, and got off to a good start before allowing the Hoppers middle order to get the total to 158. With fading light and storms on the way the thirds also crumbled to 7/64 before umpires called play off due to rain.

3 OUT OF 5 IN PUPS SEMI FINALS
The junior section of the club had a successful weekend, with 3 out of the 5 sides in the finals progressing to their respective grand finals. The Under 12 A’s had a great win reaching 6/162 and then restricting the opposition Moonee Valley to 4/97. The Under 12 C’s had an amazing win. After their opposition Westmeadows made 2/112, the boys scored the winnings runs on the last ball of the day, finishing up at 7/113. The Under 12 F’s unfortunately were beaten by Strathmore by 9 wickets. They were bowled out for 63 and Strathmore made the runs 1 wicket down. The 14 A’s, who finished on top of the ladder, have progressed to the grand final with a win over Moonee Valley. Our boys batted first and made 160 and then managed to restrict their opposition to 9/134. The Under 16 B’s ended their season very disappointingly. After winning the toss the boys batted first and no one was able to occupy the crease for an extended period of time, being bowled out for 76, with extras top scoring. Hadfield then managed to chase down the runs for the loss of one wicket.
With a number of talented 16’s finishing up their junior careers, it would be great to see all of those boys that are finished back at the Home Of Cricket next season to play seniors. Positive seasons for all junior sides and let’s hope that all 3 sides in the grand final are successful.
SEMI-FINAL WEEKEND
IT has been quite a successful year for the snowdogs following last year having all senior and junior teams in the finals - this year we have our 2's, 3's, 4's in the finals along with the U16's, U14 A's and all 3 under 12 sides.
ROUND 11 RESULTS
The 1st XI have missed out on a spot in the Senior Division finals after going down to Airport West St.Christophers. Bowling them out for 172 we could only manage 152, before APWSC made 6/119 dec setting us 140 for victory. The boys could only manage 7/101 in reply. With the loss the first XI finished 7th on the ladder. The 2nds had a massive win at home vs APWSC after smashing them for 327 on day 1, were then able to take 16 wickets on day 2 to secure a spot in the four.
The 3rd XI were able to make 205 out at Spottswood in a must win game if they were to play finals, on day two they were able to bowl them out for 131 in a fantastic display of swing bowling. The 4th XI were playing off for a home final against 2nd places Greenvale. They were able to bowl them out for 164, but failed in their run chase being bowled out for 133.
ROUND 11 - FINALS SCENARIOS
Round 11 is the final round of the 09/10 regular season, and the round where teams can sneak into the finals, or narrowly miss out. here are the scenarios for all 4 teams. Click here to see the scenario for all 4 teams
1st XI
Currently Sitting - 5th
Highest Possible- 3rd
Lowest Possible- 7th
The frists will be up against it to make the top 4. Playing 2nd placed Airport West St.Christophers they must gain .91 more points than South Caulfield do in round 11, and not give up more than 2.34 points to Essendon Grammar. The hope will be we can beat APWSC, and have South Caulfield a loss.
2nd XI
Currently Sitting - 4th
Highest Possible- 3rd
Lowest Possible- 7th
The Mick Thom led 2nds will secure a finals spot if they can beat 2nd position Airport West St.Christophers as long as Yarraville don't mannage a massive win or even an outright against 9th places McKinnon. If they lose, they will be depending on Yarravile(6.84 behind) and McKinnon(7.08behind) losing, or hoping they can gain enough points from the match keep them both at bay.
3rd XI
Currently Sitting - 5th
Highest Possible- 3rd
Lowest Possible- 7th
The Third XI will be looking to secure a spot in the finals after falling just short in semi-finals and cut-throat round 11 games in the past 5 years. Currently sitting 5th by only .88 points they can make the top 4 by beating 9th place Spottswood if Flemington go down to 6th place Yarraville, or have a low scoring win. If they lose, they must hope that Flemington lose to Yaraville in a way that will allow us to gain the desired .88, but also hope that the Yarraville victory isnt big enough so that they leapfrog us. Lots of runs, and bonus wickets are the key for the thirds.
4th XI
Currently Sitting - 3rd
Highest Possible- 1st
Lowest Possible- 4th
The 4th XI are in a fantastic position, as they have already secured a top 4 spot. They play 2nd placed Greenvale this week and that match will decide who gets the home semi-final. Should they lose, it will take a massive outright by East Keilor to knock them out of 3rd place. Its looking likely that we will be playing Greenvale in a Semi final, the only question is where. |
DIRTY DAY FOR DOGS
One week after coach Rex Bennet described the Third XI's effort of being bowled out for 67 as the worst day of cricket he'd whitnessed at the club, the First XI were bowled out 60, all but ending their finals aspirations. With heavy rain Thursday and Friday, and then hours of annoying mist on Saturday morning day 2 was delayed by 2 hours for the first XI, while all other sides were unable to play. Chris Spinella(18) was the only batsmen to make more than 10, while the dogs were 3-38, only needed to bat the day out to get 3 points they went on to lose 7-22 to be all out for 60.
ROUND 10 -DAY 1
With all 4 teams needing a win to secure a spot in the finals, 3 of the 4 games are in the balance after day 1. The first XI sent Altona North in, and bowled them out for 187. The 2nd XI again had a middle order collapse being bowled our for 166, losing their last 7 for less than 70 runs. The Thirds XI put up one of the most disapointing performances by any of the 4 teams this season. Being bowled out for 67, with only two batsmen making more than 5 runs. Their opponent Hoppers Crossing have already claimed first innings points, and are 2/77. The 4th XI also batted first and made 159, and have Doutta 2/33.

Congratulations from all Snowdogs go to 1sts wicketkeeper / batsman Chris Spinella who has not only been selected in the VTCA North Under 21s squad for a series of representative matches, but who has also been named as Captain.
This is a fine reward for Chris who has had an outstanding start to the season, making 226 runs in 3 matches so far, as well as displaying his usual fine keeping skills behind the stumps. It is also great recognition for St Bernard's in the VTCA to have the Captain of this squad from our club.

SNOWDOGS WELCOME BACK SNELLY FOR 2009 / 10
It is with great pleasure that we announce that Duncan Snell will be joining the Snowdogs as an international player for the upcoming season. Duncan is well known at St Bernard's from his time with us as an international back in 2005 / 06. He had a very successful year with us then being a major contributor to a team that made the North A finals, only to lose a close Semi Final. Duncan won the 1st XI Bowling Award with an impressive 19 wickets at an average of 13.21. He was also a force with the bat, scoring 425 runs at an average of 32.69.
Snelly has just completed a wonderful season in the Yorkshire County Premier League, helping his club York CC clinch the Premiership. He has scored 1,013 runs in the League at an average of 56.28 in what is one of England's strongest club cricket competitions.
He impressed all at the club back then with his attitude to cricket and his engaging personality, and with a further 4 years of cricket experience since he was last with us, he will be a major asset to the club as we take on Senior Division. We look forward to having Snelly back with the Snowdogs again!
